I was given a gift in the form of a glitch. Again, I had to record the footage and create a video. This is basically my first ‘real’ youtube video, where I had to edit footage. My computer was not thrilled about it. If you want to learn about the glitch, please watch the video, as I’ll just be writing some general thoughts about the game here.

Mega Man X is of the nearest games to my heart, but I won’t go on rambling about it. I will mention that I used to play it on DOS. It came with a 9-pin serial port controller. That alone, for the time, blew my mind. The fact that the game was friggin’ amazing also helped.

Looking back, I had to mention to my buddy(same one in the video) that we didn’t know just how blessed we were to be hooked on that game. At our age, finding a new secret, or getting to a further part in the game felt like discovering part of a new, authentic world. Sigma’s fortress is really only, what, 3 stages and the final boss? It’s not that expansive of a game, but to a 6 or 7-year-old, it felt lived in and HUGE.

I said I wouldn’t go on, and I plan to revisit this game and broader topic in the future. I can’t say how it felt growing up ten years earlier, or ten years later, but games seemed to expand at the rate my imagination could handle as a kid. This is a staple of my gaming memory that at the time seemed to contain endless possibilities. Now I can beat it drunk in about an hour.

I am legit pissed in the British and American sense of the word. Youtube has decided to place ads on smaller channels videos with no option to remove them. I, as the channel, copyright, and content owner have to watch ads on my videos. Please ad-block youtube, and never engage with any ads on any video I post. I don’t get or want the money, but Youtube doesn’t deserve to profit off of my hard work either.

To all the apologists out there saying they need money for infrastructure: This is some ex-post-facto garbage. That was never part of the deal when I uploaded them. Regardless, I’m not losing any sleep over ‘free video hosting’ when anything containing a snip of copyrighted content gets monetized by the holder and Youtube gets their cut. There are literally millions of videos fitting this description. I think I should be able to prevent 2 ads from playing before my 3 minute song. Not that I have to see them, ad blocked obviously. I will -never- unblock anything for youtube ever again. Things like uploading thousands of gigabytes of footage, as well as letting playlists of music requiring royalties play 24/7 have crossed my mind.

If youtube takes such a large cut - and it is large - from the big creators, you’d think they would be able to subsidize the smaller creators, and eventually profit from the investment of growing more channels. Instead, they have decided small channel’s hard work is worth them making money off of while cutting the creator out, all after the fact.

Youtube has been circling the drain for years. I used to have hours of amazing educational content from intelligent creators. Now, I have to browse on incognito mode so I can clear my history anytime one video decides to take over all my recommendations with other similar trash. The trending page is worse than television ever was.
